Queen Of The Night

Whitney Houston

Thank you to Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, and Michael Jackson.

They were my introduction to Black people doing Rock…they are why i love to hear artists branch out into different genres. They led me to Lenny, Prince, and Jimi.

because i’m absolutely sick of y’all. do you have any clue how many stars have died from overdoses? Whitney is the only one constantly being mocked about it. her official cause of death is accidental drowning…
and yes, Kurt Cobain shot himself, but he was full of heroine at the time.
so you know what? i’m not writing a whole eloquent post about this. i’m not even going to take the time to think about what i want to say. suffice it to say, fuck all of you.

Whitney Houston | Where Do Broken Hearts Go (Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert 1988)

3:15 and so forth is breathtaking. How can one person produce such emotion and soul?

Whitney Houston |The Greatest Love of All (live at Nelson Mandela Concert)

i just want to not breakdown. is that too much to ask?

i was so skeptical. pleasantly surprised.

They mixed MJ’s “Rock With You” with Whitney’s “Dance With Somebody” to make “Rock With Somebody”

It Black Girls of the 1990s [x]

Low key mad about Mya being there.

and you will deal

reasons people who grew up in the 90s are so smug: all of the above

I do feel the absence of Mary J. though.

Monica is another one i need to see in concert… another fave. But i don’t fangirl over her as much, not until someone tries to say they can sing like her. Then i have to hurt feelings.

List of favorites I will fangirl over every now and then… for future reference.

  • Janet Jackson
  • Whitney Houston
  • TLC
  • Amber Riley
  • Naya Rivera

i think i’m pretty good about keeping it to one of my other blogs, but sometimes the feels hit HARD

Aaliyah - 2001 - plane crash at 22

Left Eye - 2002 - car crash at 30

Luther Vandross - 2005 - heart attack at 53

Gerald Levert - 2006 - accidental drug overdose at 40

Michael Jackson - 2009 - homicide (doctor fed a drug addiction) at 50

Heavy D - 2011 - Pulmonary Embolism (a blood clot in the lungs) at 44

Whitney Houston - 2012 - drowning (drug use and drug use-related coronary disease led to accidental drowning) at 48

These people were who made me love music as a child or who were important to the people around me. They all shaped what music should sound like for me. How dance should look and feel, how a true vocalist should sound and feel, how emotions should be stirred, what a verse should sound like, how i should be able to print your verse and read it like a book and get something from it. They’re all dead and only one made it past 50. My childhood is fucking gone and way too damn soon…and I feel some type of way about that.
